DARLINGTON manager Steve Staunton faces a hectic month in the transfer market, but it is one he relishes as he sets about trying to transform his side's fortunes.

He will take players on six-month deals and loans, in a bid to get the side off the foot of League Two.

"Some of the young lads we have had on loan have shown promise, but we need more experience in the second half of the season," he said.

"Know-how could be all important. We need better results if we are to have a chance of overtaking teams above us, but whatever the next few months hold, we have to build the basis of a squad to take the club forward."

Darlington lost all four games to the weather over Christmas - including Saturday's scheduled home clash with Port Vale - so the games will come thick and fast, and Staunton will try and bring players in before next Saturday's trip to Bury.

Simon Thomas (Crystal Palace), David Davis (Wolves), Teessider Jonathan Hogg (Aston Villa), Paul Harsley and Danny Hall (Chesterfield), and Andrew Milne (Leeds) could all return to their clubs. …
