CHRIS HUGHTON has shrugged off any negativity after his Newcastle United side added another game to their schedule after the stalemate at Home Park.

United left Kevin Nolan and Steven Taylor at home on Saturday, while several other changes were made to the team which drew with Derby County to conclude 2009.

Hughton told the Chronicle: "I wanted to do it in the 90 minutes.

"That did not happen but at the end the overriding feeling was that we were still in the competition.

"We would have preferred to have finished it at the first time if asking.

"However, if there was a choice between losing the tie or being in the next round then we would rather have an opportunity of going through to the next round.

"We had a lot of lads who wanted to play, and I am sure there will be a lot of lads who will want to play in the replay.

"I don't think anybody would disagree we should have won.

"All we lacked were clear-cut opportunities. …
