TRUST Councillor Dunning (Two objectors were on the panel 28.11.09) to try and confuse things.

The "vertical pier" he refers to at Redcar is actually a viewing tower. The Liberal Democrats have no concerns about the viewing tower at all. The campaign for a pier is in addition to the tower.

It seems to me that people like Councillor Dunning are being unnecessarily negative about the need for a proper pier and are making excuses that simply do not stand up to scrutiny.

There has been no democratic decision taken about the need for a pier by the members of the Council and it is our intention to fight for this as it is what residents and visitors want.

For as little as pounds 3m a pier should be a top priority for the Council.

It is what the town has lacked for 30 years, which is about as long as the town has been going downhill.

We can make it happen and we will succeed.
