Legendary Stuff; Quinny Gets Accolade from Music Great's Daughter

A GOLDEN Guitar win in 2008 announced Ian Quinn's arrival on the Australian country music scene.

But it was a symbolic gong last year that showed just how far the Bundaberg songwriter had come in the industry.

Quinn felt as if the torch of the Australian bush balladeer had been passed to him when he was asked to finish the last song ever written by country legend Stan Coster.

"He was following on from guys like Henry Lawson and Banjo Patterson, so when I was asked to finish his song it was as if Banjo had passed the torch on to him and it was coming to me," Quinn said.

Country music fans would remember Coster as the man behind some of Slim Dusty's best songs.

He penned more than 70 songs for Dusty before his death in 1997.

"He was always a bloke I looked up to as a storyteller and a balladeer," Quinn said.

Quinn was able to pay the ultimate tribute to his idol when Coster's daughter Tracy asked him to finish one of her father's songs last year. …
