Burrum One of Our Best Camp Spots

SUMMER'S heat was the perfect excuse to head out and explore the sand tracks and beach sections of the Burrum Coast National Park, which stretches from Coonarr south to the mouth of the Burrum River, and covers some 23,000 hectares.

The area includes three sections of the park - the Kinkuna section, the Woodgate section and the Burrum River section.

These areas were combined into the Burrum Coast National Park in 1994.

After travelling the short 20km to access the Kinkuna section of the park, tyre pressures were dropped to assist with driving the sandy tracks.

Bush camping in the Kinkuna section is popular all year round, although there are no facilities in the area.

The central section of the park, the Woodgate section, can be accessed from Woodgate with signs showing the way.

The campground at Burrum Point offers 13 sites which are just a short walk from the water's edge.

Cold showers, water on tap and flushing toilets make this campground very popular and this was evident on our visit with only a couple of sites vacant. …
