CHRIS HUGHTON is relishing the role of spectator ahead of tonight's Coca-Cola Championship collision between West Brom and Nottingham Forest.

Victory for the Baggies would reduce United's lead at the top to three points - with the next league meeting for the Magpies against Roberto Di Matteo's side.

However, Forest know that three points will put them into one of the automatic promotion places.

Hughton told the Chronicle: "Forest are a major threat and they deserve to be where they are.

"There is no doubt they are a very good side.

"It's testament to how Forest have done, but if you asked me for a prediction tonight I couldn't give you one.

"Would I rule out Forest winning at West Brom? No I wouldn't.

"West Brom are the home side and are the favourites.

"But certainly Forest are capable of going there and getting a result.

"This game will have an impact on our season.

"We are used to the waiting game. We have been on TV so much and we have had to wait for other results and work things round.

"It will be interesting to sit back and watch such a big game.

"Plus, because of where we are at the moment, after Newcastle v West Brom in our next league game, this is one of the biggest games of the season."

Hughton was today disappointed from a football point of view to see United's trip to Reading called off.

However, he was pleased that the United faithful had been spared a nightmare trip to Berkshire and the prospect of arriving in Reading only for the game to be called off. He said: "I'm glad that the fans don't have a wasted journey because we take so many away with us." Hughton is now free to focus on transfers over the weekend but admits he'd rather be talking about another victory. He added: "The transfer window is part of January and you have to take the rough with the smooth. "There are a lot more decisions to be made. …
