BLYTH Spartans are confident they will be able to stage the first senior nonleague game in the region for a month when they take on Guiseley at Croft Park tonight.

A place in the last 16 of the FA Trophy is at stake with the incentive of a third consecutive home tie in the next round against either Gainsborough Trinity or Tamworth. Brian Little's Gainsborough are battling to avoid relegation from the Blue Square North, while newlypromoted Tamworth are in the bottom half of the Conference Premier. It is another good cup draw for Blyth, who beat Ilkeston Town 2-0 in the first round of the Trophy last month, and there is a good chance tonight's game will go ahead.

If the pitch passes its inspection, Blyth midfielder Michael Tait will finally serve his one-match ban, while new signing Richard Pell is Trophytied.

Manager Mick Tait, however, is eagerly awaiting a return to action after having the last six games postponed.

He said: "It has a been a long lay-off for both ourselves and Guiseley, but hopefully the game will get the green light and we will get the right result. …
