Unstoppable Combination; Wooldridge, Hansen Back

Golf: Brock Wooldridge and Roy Hansen form the team no competitors want to see in this month's Wide Bay Australia Burnett Cup draw.

But unfortunately for their competition, the pair have decided to reconnect after five years apart in a bid for a fourth Cup win.

Last time the two Bundaberg golfers played together in the event, they won an unprecedented three straight cup victories.

And even after five years apart, Wooldridge is confident the partnership will be a winner at Bundaberg Golf Club next fortnight.

"Any time Roy and I play together we play well and we combine well, and when you play in that competition you've got have a good combination," he said yesterday.

From 2002-2005 the pair were unbeatable at Bundaberg Golf Club, taking out the title in three consecutive years.

That is a rare feat in the history of the competition and no team has been able to dominate the biggest event on the Bundaberg Golf Club calendar since.

Club captain Geoff Loveday believes the pair will be among the favourites to take out the prize when the tournament starts on January 31.

"It's a very hard event to repeat," he said.

"Over the years it has got the reputation that it is an event anyone can win, so what they did was nothing short of amazing."

Wooldridge said the pair parted ways in 2005 because he was unable to compete in 2006.

The next year he joined forces with his brother but was unable to recapture the titles.

Last year Wooldridge teamed with Sean Stuchbery for a promising campaign that was only derailed by eventual champions Bruce Tree and Ray Austin in the semi-final.

Tree and Austin were shock winners in the event last year.

But they were by no means the first team to come into the event unannounced and take away the major prize.

Since the event started in 1971 it has been known as an event that can produce even the most unlikely upsets. …
