Tyneside Prospects Ready for England Duty; Schools Football

THE weather has had a big effect on schoolboy football over the past two weeks, but the season is just starting for the England Schools' Under-18 team who are gearing up for the start of their season.

Kris Wilkinson (Heaton Manor) and Matthew Scott (Monkseaton) hope to participate in the last trials for the England team which are on January 29-31 at Lilleshall and then they start their Carnegie Centenary Shield campaign away against Northern Ireland on February 26 at Comber FC.

They then follow this game with a fixture against Wales at Wrexham on March 12, with their first home game on April 23 against arch-rivals Scotland.

This should appeal to local schools football enthusiasts as it is being played at Carlisle FC at 7.40pm, and a large North East contingent is expected to travel across to Cumbria for the game.

England round off their league programme against the Republic of Ireland at Burton FC on April 20 at 7.40pm. The last trials for the England team are on January 29-31 at Lilleshall.

Newcastle play Gateshead in the Under-15 English Schools Trophy fifth round this Saturday at Heaton Manor School (10am). …
