Council Budget to Seal the Fate of Our Region's Roads

EIGHTEEN months after Bundaberg Regional Council revealed its worst five roads, only one of them has been sealed.

Just a 1.2km stretch of Tableland Road at Horse Camp, near Gin Gin, has received attention.

Back Windermere Road, Coonarr Road, Duckpond Road and Bonna Road were also named in the list as priorities to be bitumened, but still remain untouched.

Council roads and drainage group manager Peter Jensen said part of Back Windermere Road will be sealed in June, but continuation of this work will depend on future budgets.

A section of Coonarr Road will be widened later this month.

A small part of Bonna road was widened in late 2008 leaving Duckpond Road as the only thoroughfare on the list with no plans for work on the horizon.

Gin Gin Police officer in charge sergeant Tim Marrinan said he would like to see the road sealed.

"It could very well help with safety," he said.

Sergeant Marrinan said the there had been many crashes on the winding dirt road. …
