Ex-Wallaby Leads New Look Bears; Junior and Senior Union Players Unite under One Title

THE Toowoomba Bears rugby club will take on a new look in 2010, but the entire club will move in the one direction.

Former Wallaby Hugh Rose has taken over the presidency of the Bears, who have moved to run the entire club, from under 6s to A Grade, under the one banner.

Part of that development will see current Darling Downs representative coach Evan Willis, who led the Bears to their inaugural A Grade premiership in 2008, take on the role of coaching director. Rose has had no previous involvement with the Bears, but likes what he sees at the club.

"I think the club is in very good shape with good strategies having already been put in place at the club," Rose said.

"I haven't had any previous attachment with any club, but I was very happy to do this when asked.

"With the club coming together under the one banner, it gives us the sense of one, well-organised sporting club and provides continuity right through from the juniors to the seniors. …
