Still No Figure on North Buy-Up

GYMPIE Mayor Cr Ron Dyne said he still could not release how much council had spent buying up the historic Northumberland Hotel, which is destined to relieve their over populated offices.

He said the figure was still confidential until he had the authority of council to release the numbers, but would be doing so via a press release next week.

But independent sources have confirmed the price tag to be close to $1.5 million.

Cr Dyne said council was still formulating what the office space would look like and, at this stage, there was no approximate figure as to how much it would cost to construct.

He said workers had recently been tidying up the area and taking down XXXX signs so that people didn't still think it was a bottle-O, and trimming long grass.

He said the previous owners still needed to collect some fittings from the hotel but other items would most likely be sold off.

Gympie Regional Council bought the pub on the corner of Nash and Channon Streets on December 22. …
