WHITLEY Bay now trail leaders Spennymoor Town by nine points in the Skilltrainingltd Northern League First Division after losing a thrilling five-goal contest at third-top Dunston UTS last night.

For an hour, though, the Seahorses were in control, and goals by Paul Chow and Adam Johnston looked like earning them the points.

Chris Laws led Dunston's fightback, and in the 76th minute it was no surprise when Fergal Harkin levelled.

In a frenetic finale, Calvin Smith grabbed a last-minute winner - and Dunston are now just two points behind Whitley Bay.

Spennymoor Town stretched their lead to nine points with victory over fourth-top Ashington at Woodhorn Lane.

The only goal came on 49 minutes. Steven Capper and Keith Graydon combined to set up Michael Rae, who had only been on the field for four minutes.

AT the other end of the table, Ryton remain fifth bottom after losing 3-1 at West Auckland Town, who moved off the basement for the first time in months. …
