Why No Play, Captains Ask

OPPOSING captains Jason Caught and Phil Dalli are miffed at Nesbitt Park being declared unplayable for the second day of the Lismore Workers v Tintenbar-East Ballina match at South Lismore on Saturday.

Across town at Nielson Park, the Souths v Brothers match went ahead, as did three LDCA first grade matches including one at Oakes Oval.

Groundsmen at Nesbitt Park had reportedly rolled and marked the pitch before the captains received the call about 10am that the match was called off.

Dalli was particularly incensed with the decision given that Tintenbar-East Ballina are locked in a scrimmage for the last spot in the semi-finals.

"I can't understand it," Dalli said.

"All the other matches went on in Lismore but apparently our deck was wet.

"How does that happen?"

Fresh from his first ton of the season, Dalli was set to lead the run chase and close in on the top four but will now have to rely on other results to get a run in the finals. …
