Plan under review

PLANS for a proposed $20 million service centre on the Ballina bypass should be rejected, Ballina shire Mayor Phillip Silver told last week's council meeting.

"We have been deferring it for three years. In my view I would have thought that refusal would be more appropriate," he said.

The council voted to give Lennox Head developer Chris Condon six months to submit more detailed plans.

Amid controversy about his relationship with Mr Condon, Cr Peter Moore declared a non-pecuniary interest and left the council chambers for the debate and vote.

He said he was waiting for the results of a code of conduct complaint against him.

Body identified

POLICE have positively identified human rem-

ains found in bushland at Ocean Shores as being those of missing man Kevin Kirk.

Mr Kirk, 70, was last seen walking a dog through the Ferry Reserve Caravan Park at nearby Brunswick Heads on 18 January.

A series of searches for Mr Kirk were conducted in the area by police and other emergency services after he was reported missing, but failed to locate any trace of him. …
