BLYTH SPARTANS goal machine Paul Brayson is homing in on a second consecutive UniBond Golden Boot after a productive first season at Croft Park.

The much-travelled diminutive front man has scored an impressive 18 goals in 24 games in the famous green-and-white shirt of the Spartans.

The man known universally as 'Brassie' has picked up the Port of Blyth Player of the Month for January after scoring six goals in five games.

It was a second Player of the Month award for a striker who has played for a number of professional and non-league clubs after his career began at hometown club Newcastle.

The 32-year-old, a snip at pounds 3,000 following his early season move from Durham City, was denied the chance to add to his impressive tally on Saturday.

Blyth's home game against struggling Gainsborogh Trinity had to be cancelled after overnight snow left Croft Park under five inches of the white stuff.

However, with at least 21 games to play in the last three months of a weather-affected campaign, Brayson will have plenty of opportunity to hit the goal standard. …
