INJURIES in netball are part and parcel of the sport.

A sudden change in direction or a frantic leap for the ball places enormous pressure on the joints. Combine this with a playing surface not up to standard and you have a recipe for disaster.

For the Grafton Netball Association there is good news on the horizon.

Four of the seven courts will be getting a much needed make-over according to Grafton Netball president Cathy Walls.

"We have seven hard courts in total but unfortunately four are damaged. All the rain last year caused problems, water got under the surface and mould has made the surface slippery," says Walls.

"Water keeps pooling around some of the courts, it appears to be a levelling problem."

Participation in netball in Australia has exploded in the past few years and Grafton is no exception.

"We have about 600 registered players," says Walls.

"We hold the biggest tournament on the north coast, basically because Grafton is central to most centres. …
