DAVID Strassman remembers well one of his visits to Mackay, in the 1990s, because that's when he attended his first teddy bears' picnic.

Next month he will return for his show's popular character Ted E Bare's farewell tour.

While speaking to him from his Hollywood Hills home via telephone, the ventriloquist, famous for his characters Chuck Wood and Ted E Bare, recalled his time here and spoke about his new show.

Ventriloquism may be an old art form, but for Strassman his show is on par with any live modern show in the world.

"It is a brand new show and it's probably the funniest ever.

"It is a show where Ted E announces it will be his last show - however, I think it might be a bit like a John Farnham tour," he joked.

A lover of Queensland and the regional cities he has visited, Strassman said it was all about the people he got to entertain on the road.

"I am really lucky to do what I do; there are many people who have day jobs who sit in office cubicles and I am on stage playing with dolls, which is very childish," he joked. …
