DEFOE'S GOAL TARGET I CAN BEAT ROONEY TO THE GOLDEN BOOT; Spurs Striker Buoyant after Third Hat-Trick of Season

JERMAIN DEFOE today set his sights on winning the Golden Boot after his third hat-trick of the season fired Tottenham into the fifth round of the FA Cup.

The England striker's treble in last night's replay at Leeds helped Spurs win 3-1 and set up a tie against Bolton. Defoe now has 20 goals in all competitions this season, which is already just two shy of his best total from the 2004-05 campaign.

The forward has scored 15 in the Premier League this term, putting him joint second in the Golden Boot standings alongside Chelsea's Didier Drogba.

They are five behind Wayne Rooney and although the Manchester United striker is in form with six goals from his last three games, Defoe (above, with the match ball at Elland Road) still believes he can finish top of the pile.

"If I do get it, it would be great for everyone," he said. "I just want to keep it going. It [the Golden Boot] is at the back of my mind. …
