SCHOOL pupils got creative to help get an environmentally friendly message out to family and friends.

As part of a World of Work week, students at Lord Lawson of Beamish School, in Birtley, had a presentation from Gateshead Warm Zone about the benefits to your wallet and the environment of having a properly insulated home.

They designed their own posters bearing energy-saving messages to pass on to others.

The presentation, by Gateshead Warm Zone's John Leslie, let the students see how much carbon emissions can be saved by having loft and cavity wall insulation installed in their homes.

As well as the carbon savings of around 25 tonnes over 25 years for cavity wall insulation, savings on fuel bills could be as much as pounds 3,500 over the same period, a fact that amazed most of the 100 students. Gateshead Warm Zone is a not-for-profit organisation working in partnership with Gateshead Council, Scottish Power and other community-based organisations helps to improve energy efficiency in the home. …
