JOE GAMBLE says he is determined to make the most of his second shot at English football with Hartlepool.

Gamble, 28, was unable to establish himself in a four-year stint at Reading earlier in his career and was loaned to Crawley and Barnet.

But the passing midfielder's desire to grasp his new chance has shone through in a string of assured showings since joining Pools from first club Cork City last month.

"It's the second time I''ve been in English football and I''m ready for it," said the diminutive Irishman.

"You need to get on with it and have some steel about yourself. Maybe I took the easy route in leaving after one or two knock-backs.

"But that's like, what do you do? We all look back and wonder, but I'm grateful for a second opportunity in England.

"Family comes first -I had a kid and have got a second child on the way, and people don't realise you have a life out of football. …
