Ghazwah Poised to Triumph Again; RACING PREVIEW

GHAZWAH proved a little disappointing in four starts as a juvenile but a switch of scenery seems to have worked the oracle and she is the pick of a fair card at Lingfield.

Trained by John Gosden last year, she fell well short in maiden company, particularly when beaten as an odds-on favourite on the Kempton all weather last August.

Sent to the Arqana Sales last December, she was snapped up by Richard Fahey for 21,000 guineas and the daughter of Shamardal soon repaid a small fraction of that price when striking at Southwell a couple of weeks ago. Admittedly it was a weak affair that provided a winning opportunity, but Ghazwah's time compared very favourably to a better class race earlier on the card.

Ghazwah ended last season on a mark of 75 and races from a 3lb lower perch in the Golf And Racing Handicap (3.55) and it would be dangerous to ignore her now she has tasted victory.

Henry Cecil does not have that many horses to run on the allweather so Zerzura's presence in the Marriott Hotel Opening Spring 2010 Handicap (2.55) should be noted.

Defeated at a short price on his all-weather bow, Zerzura bounced back from that defeat to land a Wolverhampton maiden by half a length.

The four-year-old is a halfbrother to French Group Three winner Frenchmans Bay so there is obviously some ability in the family.

This slow-maturing type looked a decent horse in the making when winning last time and is taken to follow up on his first handicap start.

Poyle Meg was in top trim towards the end of last year and can pick up where she left off in the Handicap (6.40) at Kempton.

Winner of two out of three allweather outings, Ralph Beckett has given the four-year-old a bit of a break after a narrow success over this course and distance early last December.

She has been raised a further 3lb for her consistent efforts but still appeals as one with more up her sleeve.
