FAMILY ties and an opportunity to learn at one of the best police stations for training have lured six new police recruits to serve their first year and beyond in the Gympie police district.

The Gympie connection was strongest for Constable Trudy Stonier, who grew up in the area and was the former legal secretary for solicitor Michael Garrahy.

Const Stonier said joining the Queensland Police Service was something she had always wanted to do but had put off until her three children were in primary school.

Dealing with the public comes naturally to Const Stonier, a self-confessed chatterbox who says she can bore anyone into submission.

"I'm a talker," she admitted.

"Hopefully I'll be able to help (diffuse difficult situations)."

Constable Lauren Garrett grew up on the Sunshine Coast and developed a fondness for the Gympie area just before she entered the Police Academy.

Her mother bought a property on Gympie's Southside to keep their horses and that's where she lives now, enjoying being able to squeeze a ride in-between shifts. …
