'Beefy' Backs Hamilton for Tour

ENGLISH cricket legend Sir Ian Botham touched down on Hamilton Island yesterday afternoon for the first stop on a whirlwind reconnaissance mission of prime Australian tourist locations.

Accompanying his son Liam - owner of luxury UK based travel firm Botham & Miller, on a 10 day trip designed to scope out possible places to include on an Ashes tour later in the year - Botham will stay at Hamilton Island's luxury resort qualia for the weekend before flying to South Australia on Monday.

The Bothams will spend most of their stay in the Whitsundays indulging Sir Ian's passion for deep sea fishing.

The visit though, didn't get off to a great start with the cricketing great blaming the air conditioning on the pair's long haul flight for a cold that forced them to call off a scheduled game of golf on Dent Island's new world class course yesterday.

Instead they ate mud crab at qualia's Pebble Beach restaurant, giving Liam his first chance to talk with tour company Outback Encounter's Managing Director Drew Kluska about opportunities to link up on the proposed travel project. …
