Westpac Helicopter Called to Motorcycle Accident

A 52-year-old Woolgoolga man is in hospital following a motorcycling accident east of Dorrigo on Saturday afternoon.

The man was riding his motorcycle on the Ulong Road, west of Coramba when he reportedly 'high sided' his bike and was pitched over the handlebars.

The man apparently slid about 50 metres down the road and 10 metres down a precipitous bank among trees.

He was picked up by Westpac 1 Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter from Newcastle and flown to the Coffs Harbour Health Campus at 3.30pm.

He was admitted to hospital with suspected lower limb fractures and an injured shoulder.

His condition was reported as stable late yesterday.

Westpac 1 pilot Ian Osborne said they were at Taree when they received the call, with the chopper called in because of the precarious nature of the terrain, but he said local rescue crews had managed to read the roadway with the injured man when they landed at the scene. …
