Bail Denied after Alleged Attack with Car, Machete

ACCUSED of driving his car at a Coraki woman and using the 'blunt' side of a machete to hit her, Robert Anderson was refused bail in the Lismore Local Court yesterday.

Arrested on the weekend, Anderson 37, of East Coraki, was charged with two counts of assault; affray; and assault causing bodily harm in relation to incidents that occurred between 2am and 7am on Saturday, February 13.

Defence lawyer Steve Bolt said his client would plead not guilty to the charges.

Prosecutor Sgt Peter Costin-Neilsen said the allegations made by the woman and another witness were very serious.

He said Anderson grabbed the woman, but she was able to avoid his first attempt to head-butt her.

Anderson is then accused of successfully head-butting the woman and elbowing her head while she was on the ground.

She told police Anderson had driven his car at her before getting 'a home-made machete' and striking her on the right arm with the flat side, causing an injury. …
