Man Gets 10 Years in Apartment Burglary; an Accomplice, 13, Was Related to Homeowner and Knew He Was Away

An Athens man will serve 10 years in prison for breaking into a home last summer while the residents were visiting a relative who was fighting for her life in an Augusta hospital.

Laquan Dee Williams, 18, broke into the home of Eric Davenport on Aug. 19 while Davenport was visiting his sister at an Augusta burn center. Elisa Denise "Lisa" Davenport clung to life for 12 days after, police said, her boyfriend doused her with kerosene and set her on fire.

Williams' 13-year-old accomplice was Eric Davenport's cousin and knew no one would be at the Parkview Extension home, said Assistant District Attorney Kris Bolden, so the two broke in and stole a laptop computer, engagement ring and other valuables worth more than $6,400.

"It was a very difficult time for Eric Davenport, and he really conveyed how it was just about all he could handle, seeing his sister in the hospital that day, then coming home to find that someone broke into his house," Bolden said Thursday. …
