Be Prepared for an Emergency and Have a Plan in Place

Don't let your family be caught out - Emergency Management Qld is urging Queenslanders to make sure they know what to do when a cyclone warning is issued, when storms hit or when creeks and rivers flood.

"It's not enough to have an imagined idea for what to do," EMQ North Coast region regional director Peter Twomey said.

"People need to check their household emergency plans, they need to be aware and they need to take precautions so they do not find themselves in danger.

"In an emergency having specific tasks and a checklist of what to do is crucial to survival."

Mr Twomey said even though households which had experienced a natural disaster were more likely to know what do, it wasn't always the case.

"The reality is this is cyclone season and it is likely Qld will experience wild weather in the coming months as a result of this," Mr Twomey said.

"Everyone needs to consider their household emergency plans, their emergency kits and realise the potential for cyclones and storm surge to impact the Qld coast. …
