Students Try Taste of Uni; Local Families Show Foreign Visitors the Region

SOUTHERN Cross University students had a taste of the area yesterday with local families providing a Goodwill Lunch.

Canadian students Leanne Richards and Stephen Jordeleza were among a group of international and domestic students who joined local families for the Goodwill Lunch, organised by Southern Cross University.

Ms Richards and Mr Jordeleza said they were looking forward to the semester, studying a graduate diploma of education.

"We are both living pretty close to the campus and my first impression of Australia is it is just beautiful," Mr Jordeleza said.

Pastoral care coordinator for Southern Cross University Leonie Jennings said she organised the day in a bid to show Tweed had a racially tolerant society.

"Given the current climate in Australia with all the media about racial intolerance in Melbourne we thought we could show there was still goodwill in this area," Mrs Jennings said.

"The day was to promote this area as a really lovely place to newcomers. …
