MUCH of Teesside woke up to another whitewash of frost and snow today.

Icy conditions were reported across the region and some areas saw a significant covering of the white stuff.

Heavy traffic was reported as drivers braved the frosty conditions to make their way to work and schools returned following the half-term break.

The A19 northbound saw heavy traffic following a collision near to Elwick which left one lane closed.

And other drivers faced similarly lengthy journeys as traffic slowed down in order to cope with the icy weather.

Last night a section of the A19 northbound carriageway was closed when an articulated wagon crashed into a bridge just before midnight.

The vehicle collided with a leg of the bridge under the A689 flyover, near to Wynyard. Police and fire crews attended the incident, freeing the driver before transporting him to The University Hospital of North Tees.
