Hervey Bay Sunday's markets alternate between Urangan and Nikenbah. Lots of colour, bargains and locals.

Maryborough's Wharf Street on a Sunday for lunch. Rare ambience. Nice food.

The Bay's Esplanade. Walk or bike it for as long as you want. It runs from Urangan to Point Vernon.

Ghost tours in Maryborough. So professionally presented and a real insight into the Heritage City's past.

Visiting Dhugamin, also called Scrub Hill, on the Maryborough-Hervey Bay Road. This Butchulla Aboriginal community farm does terrific things in organic nursery work and artefacts.

The Hideaway Hotel in Tiaro for a jar and good local company.

Brooklyn House in Howard for a tour and scones and tea. Annabelle Rankin lived there.

The Hervey Bay Boat Club veranda at the marina. Chill out, enjoy the view. Nice atmosphere. Good food.

Meet Maryborough's famous Mary, Carmel Murdoch. What a woman! Carmel acts as four Marys - Poppins, Christmas, Heritage and Widow, depending on the event and the time of year.

Well, I confess. I have an absolute favourite club and it's the Hervey Bay RSL. They do extremely unique things like running an in-club counselling service and giving back so much to the community. Plus, their tucker is superb.

The World's Greatest Pub Crawl in Maryborough. It's done very smartly with an alcohol-free thrust and the dressing up aspect is a joy. Book in with us for June 2009.

The Hervey Bay Seafood Festival at Urangan. Brilliant. That's an August 2009 date you have to keep. Meanwhile try our local seafood.

Queens Park ub Maryborough. For picnics, free movies, music and do make sure you cruise the Mary for an unusual glimpse of Heritage City foreshore living.

Fish and chips at Fraser Shores, Madigans and Birneys in the Bay. No trip to the Bay is complete without fish and chips on the beach.

Grab a taxi if you don't have a car - or hey, walk. …
