Police Follow Up on Their Threats to Illegal Riders

ACTION has been taken to crack down on the anti-social and dangerous activities of illegal motorbike riders in a seaside town.

Northumbria Police issued a warning last week that nuisance bikers had better beware following concerns from local residents in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, Northumberland.

Now neighbourhood officers have acted on the threat by carrying out an operation to put a stop to the problems.

So far, police have issued warnings to eight people who have been caught riding their motorbikes or quad bikes illegally around the town.

One man who was caught on the Moors Estate was arrested for driving while disqualified and had his off-road motorcycle seized.

A 16-year-old youth was also summonsed to court for a number of driving offences.

The crackdown was launched after a number of complaints were made about bikes being ridden illegally on sand dunes and the areas surrounding Newbiggin Golf Club.
