Poor Old Polo Left in the Cold; ELDERLY HORSE FOUND SHIVERING AFTER THIEVES STEAL HER RUG

THIEVES have stolen materials belonging to an elderly house seeing out her days at an animal sanctuary.

Polo is 37 and has a serious heart condition, but that didn't stop a callous thief from swiping a waterproof coat from off her back.

Tuesday's theft has outraged staff at Bryson's animal sanctuary in Gateshead where Polo is being looked after.

Tracy Holmes, manager of the refuge on Galloping Green Road, Eighton Banks, was stunned to discover the theft when she went to bring Polo in from a field at 3.30pm.

"I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw her waterproof rug was gone," she said. "It wasn't brand new but it goes around her neck and keeps her warm up to her ears. It was absolutely freezing and she was shivering."

Polo has been cared for at the refuge for the past six years since her elderly owners couldn't look after her.

"She is a really old lady, a real sweetheart and isn't a scrap of bother," she added. …
