Having a Nice St David's Day at Stereophonics

Stereophonics, Newcastle Metro Radio Arena, Monday PERHAPS festival fever has clouded my judgment a little, but the Stereophonics delivered a mixed bag of tricks at Newcastle Metro Radio Arena on St David's Day.

I guess nothing they did could live up to my expectations, having lapped up a front row view of the Welsh rockers at my first festival experience - T in the Park in 1997.

And, if I'm honest, I do prefer the older stuff from their debut album Word Gets Around to newer tracks.

However, you just had to glance around at the age range of the arena's audience to understand just how far this band have come since their early days.

Now 11 years on, since the launch party of their second album Performance and Cocktails, it was a good enough reason to party, as lead vocalist and guitarist Kelly Jones began blasting out A Thousand Trees and Just Looking.

Pick a Part That's New shone through bringing all those beer-soaked festival memories flooding back. …
