A REDCAR flight attendant has discarded her wings and trolley to start a new business as a mobile dog groomer.

Iris Atkins, 47 of Redcar Lane, took the leap of faith in a tough economic climate in an attempt to spruce up the pooches of the Tees Valley.

She said: "I have always had a soft spot for dogs, like to travel and used to be a hair-dresser so being a mobile dog groomer seemed like a good career move!

"The stress of driving to Newcastle every day was taking its toll and some of the passengers were very temperamental.

"Now the only bad tempers I face are those of the dogs that don't like bath time."

Iris, who used to work for Thomson Holidays, completed a dog grooming course in Birmingham and proudly displays her certificate for customers to see.

She also invested in a large heated van, fully equipped with doggy bath and grooming table before taking her new business on the road.

The van with its pawprint livery can be seen all over the Teesside area and is becoming quite a hit with local dog owners. …
