Skipper's Tribute to Ton-Up Morgan; CRICKET

Article excerpt

ALASTAIR Cook delivered a first series win as England's one-day captain, then thanked Eoin Morgan's cool head for making it happen.

Morgan produced a phenomenal knock of 110 not out to see England home by two wickets from a tricky position at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium yesterday, blazing 16 off the penultimate over and winning it with a six.

Those fireworks made light of the awkward spot Bangladesh had backed the tourists into as they sought to level the three-match series 1-1. And Morgan's calmness and control in leading the charge towards their 261-run target won firm praise from his skipper.

"It was a fantastic knock, it had everything," said Cook, who also made 60.

"He picked his time to hit the boundaries, he built a partnership with Matty (Prior) which was a fantastic one and then he came into his own in the final powerplay.

"Eoin was probably the coolest person out there because I certainly wasn't, I was pacing up and down the dressing room.

"I'm not the best cricket watcher when it gets tense but it was an amazing, relieved feeling and a really good chase.

"A win is a win. We wanted to win the series and we have, now we want 3-0."
