Rogerrab Leads All the Way in Classy Display

Article excerpt

PROMISING Mackay galloper Rogerrab won his first open company race at a TAB meeting in Rockhampton on Tuesday with a superb front-running display.

He'd tried to pinch a win there last start when he led by eight lengths mid-race in a Class 6 (1400m).

He couldn't hold on that day, collared about 100m out by Red Story, but he battled on gamely for third.

Back to 1300m on Tuesday, the five-year-old started $2.80 favourite, despite stepping up to open company.

Rated perfectly in front by apprentice Alisha Taylor, Rogerrab didn't open up such a big lead but had still pinched a handy break at the top of the long Rockhampton straight.

Taylor's claim meant he carried only 52kg, a drop of 3.5kg on his last Rockhampton run, and he never looked in danger in the run to the post.

Trained by Wayne Pomfrett, Rogerrab cruised home to win by two lengths to Forade ($8), with another Mackay horse Captain Biggles ($3.80), now looking for further after a last-start Rockhampton win, two-and-a-quarter lengths back in third.

The winner also won a Rockhampton Class 6 (1200m) three starts back in early February.

Tuesday's win took his career record to seven wins and 12 placings from 25 career starts. …
