PLUNKETT'S BACK; but Tees Ace Has Little Chance to Shine: CRICKET

Article excerpt

TEESSIDER Liam Plunkett was back in an England shirt as they made solid progress in their bid to complete a series whitewash over Bangladesh in the third one-day international.

But the pace bowler had limited opportunity to make an impact in his first one-day International since playing against The West Indies in 2007.

The tourists posted 284 for five after being asked to bat first, a total underpinned by a maiden international century for opener Craig Kieswetter (107).

And although Bangladesh made a launched a spirited chase to reach 144 for four after 30 overs, there was still plenty of work to do with no more specialist batsmen in the pavilion.

Debutant Ajmal Shahzad was handed the new ball and, just as he did on his Twenty20 bow in Dubai last month, obliged his captain with a wicket in his first over.

Tamim Iqbal, who blazed 125 in the series opener in Dhaka, was the man out for a duck, slashing to Tim Bresnan at third man.

Earlier Kieswetter, 22, making his third ODI appearance, looks most at home when facing the quick men.

He dug in after a nervy opening and laboured to a gutsy 50 off 80 balls. Having passed that landmark the opener began to free his arms.

His 124-ball knocked contained nine fours and three sixes, with each of the maximums showcasing his devastating hitting power down the ground.
