RESPECTED retired teacher Joan Barbara Farr, of Norton, recently celebrated her 100th birthday in style!

Friends, relatives and staff at Millbeck Care Home on the High Street made it a day to remember for sprightly Miss Farr.

Staff at the Anchor home organised a visit from Irish musicians and dancers, as listening to celtic music is her favourite pastime.

Centenarian Miss Farr has lived at the home for a year.

She was born in Stockton in 1910 and is well known in the area as she was deputy head of Norton Board School for around 38 years.

She began teaching in 1930 after going to Durham University.

Mayor of Stockton Paul Kirton attended to present a bouquet of flowers to Miss Farr to celebrate her special day.

She said: "I've had a wonderful life which I have enjoyed - with lots of love.

"I never wanted to live anywhere else, or do any other job but teaching."

She believes the secret to her long life is genetics, honouring her parents and being well fed and looked after. …
