Local Real Estate Agents Haven't Seen Reported Boom

DESPITE reports that building approvals in the Northern Rivers region have grown dramatically local real estate agents aren't buying it.

A recent release from The Housing Industry Association reported that growth of building approvals over the three months to January 2010 in the Northern Rivers region had increased 105.9 per cent.

According to HIA regional director, Gold Coast/Northern Rivers, Colin Buttenshaw, during that time frame building approvals across the two regions were at a level of 982 which is 51 per cent up on the same period a year ago.

"It is a big relief to see building approvals on the increase and that means jobs for our trades and apprentices." Mr Buttenshaw said.

However, not all local real estate agents have seen the increase.

Brian Warrick, of Wal Murray Real Estate at Ballina, said the sale of blocks of land has continued on a steady progression.

"It's never really eased off," he said. …
