EVEN the Northern Tablelands locals were taken aback as the Bancroft clan's Hillbilly road train rolled through the rural districts of the Liverpool Plains at the weekend.

This was a sight to behold, and one I hope will never have to be repeated - at least by members of my family.

First the background.

My eldest son, Ben, had accepted a cadetship with the Liverpool Plains Shire Council and needed to be moved, together with his fiancee, two dogs, a busted motorcycle and a house full of furniture from Armidale, where he had been studying engineering, to Quirindi, about 70km south-west of Tamworth.

No moves ever go completely to plan, but after two days of heaving and cleaning all the possessions had been relocated.

We set off for home on Sunday morning - my wife and my father in his old farm ute towing one trailer, myself in my sister's borrowed Ford Transit van towing another trailer. …
