Readers Love New Country Library; Visitor Numbers Double in Just Four Months

BOOK-lovers have been flocking to the new Gatton library, with borrower numbers doubling since the doors opened.

After four months at its new site at Lake Apex, inside the Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre, numbers have skyrocketed.

Lockyer Valley Library manager Linda Canning said the increase in numbers of people through the doors was "phenomenal".

"At our old premises in Railway Street we would average around 250 people through the doors a day, and this was also the numbers we were seeing when we first opened at Lake Apex," Ms Canning said.

"Now we are averaging between 350-400 people a day, with some good days seeing more than 500 people come through the doors of the new library."

Ms Canning said numbers on Saturdays had also grown, with about 200 book-lovers walking through the doors during its opening hours, between 9am and 1pm.

"While we are extremely happy with the number of daily visitors to the new library, one of the most impressive things has been the increase in our membership base of more than 500 patrons since we have opened the new library. …
