Top Students Are Class Act as Comperes; Pair Meet MPs at Conference

A PAIR of Teesside students rubbed shoulders with some of the top names in education when they acted as comperes at a key national conference.

Eassun Ravindran and Lucy Taylor, both 18, introduced speakers to the stage at the annual conference for the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL).

The pair are head boy and girl at Conyers School in Yarm, and their headteacher John Morgan is president of the ASCL.

Among the people they introduced were Ed Balls, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, Nick Clegg, the leader of the Liberal Democrat Party, Michael Gove, Shadow Secretary of State for Children Schools and Families, and Carolyn Duffy, the Poet Laureate.

The students were on stage in front of 700 headteachers at the conference held at the Novotel in London last weekend.

Eassun, from Yarm, said: "We did the domestic announcements and introduced each of the speakers on to the stage."

Lucy, from Ingleby Barwick, said: "On the first day we were both really nervous because we were going on stage in front of 700 headteachers. …
