AN IPSWICH woman who had sex with her teenage step-son has been given a suspended jail sentence.

Ipswich District Court heard the 23-year-old woman had sex with the 15-year-old boy - who is not blood-related - in February 2008.

When the woman's 41-year-old husband came home that day, she was upset and confessed what she had done but the family decided to forget the incident and move on.

Crown Prosecutor Sal Vasta said the man confronted his son and the 15-year-old admitted having sex with his step-mother, but the teen said: "It just happened".

But the matter was anonymously reported to Child Safety Services and police became involved.

The woman, who cannot be named to protect the identity of her underage stepson, pleaded guilty to incest.

She was sentenced to two years jail but it was wholly suspended.

Defence barrister Bruce Mumford said his client, who is now aged 24, had been changing medication at the time and it had changed her behaviour. …
