WITH experienced mentor Kym Bending at the helm, the Coolangatta Tweed Barbarians are confident of getting the job done in their first pre-season trial against Ballina at Goodwin Park this afternoon.

"It's early days yet, but we're quietly confident we'll be strong across all grades, both this weekend and throughout the season," club president Clint Jones said.

"We're looking pretty good already, and while it's important to focus on the fundamentals in our first hit-out, I expect to see a rejuvenated side."

Insistent on establishing more professionalism in 2010, the Baa Baas have undergone some major transformations during the off-season, most notably returning to the Gold Coast Rugby Union after a mixed stint in Far North Coast Rugby Union.

The move has produced many positive outcomes for the rebuilding outfit, who have enjoyed a dramatic increase in player numbers and quality and opened the doors to some of the region's most respected coaches. …
