Wattles Chopped Down by Souths in Trial Game

JOHN Blaine scored two tries as Wattles went down 34-22 to Souths in the A-grade game at Platz Oval, Clifton, on Saturday night.

Matt McCarthy and Luke Baker scored a try each and Brad Glass landed three goals for Wattles.

Prop Jason Nightingale had one of his best games for Wattles in A-grade.

Five-eighth Tim Hentschel had a strong game for Wattles and Glass was strong in attack in the second row.

In reserve grade, Wattles won 22-10.

Harry Gibson scored two tries, and David Cartmill and Will Manley scored a try each.

Manley landed two goals and Brian Wilson one.

Gibson led the team well from hooker and Manley was strong in attack.

Paul Hoey and Drew Wilson played well in their comeback games after returning from working holidays in Canada.

Nick Colthrup had a great all round game at fullback.

In the under-18 game, Souths won 60-14 against an under-strength Wattles side.

Carl Gale had another strong game in the forwards for Wattles. …
