It's Not Sew Easy to Make This Quilt

GAIL Chalker is a quilter, not a quitter.

The Gatton resident and co-owner of Sew Creative originally planned to make a 15-metre hexagon quilt for a quilt show in May.

When word got out and the rosette (pattern) donations started coming in from around the world, Mrs Chalker had to think a bit bigger.

How much bigger? Try 130kg in weight and 120 metres long.

"When the news of my quilt reached the internet, I started receiving tens of thousands of rosettes from all over the world," Mrs Chalker said.

"The response was bigger than Ben Hur.

"I figured we should use all the rosettes we were given so we plan to have a 120-metre long quilt completed by May."

To put things in perspective, an average quilt size is 2.5 to three metres long.

"I never expected such a response. We've been working since November last year and have 45 metres done so far," Mrs Chalker said.

"We've received more than 11,000 rosettes so far and we're still receiving them. …
