COOLAROO made an emphatic start to its AFL Darling Downs premiership defence with a 103-point demolition of South Toowoomba at Gold Park on Saturday.

In a replay of the 2009 grand final, the defending premiers dominated the Bombers on the way to recording a massive victory.

Coolaroo established a two-goal lead at quarter-time before blowing Souths out of the water in the second stanza.

Their fitness and attack on the football gave them the edge and they built on the lead at each break.

The result suggests Coolaroo will be hard to beat this year as their additions in the midfield give the 'Roos plenty of depth.

Souths also have plenty of work to do if they want to make their third-straight grand final.

Blow-out scores were common in the first round of AFLDD action, with University extending a tough initiation into the competition for first-gamers Highfields.
