IPSWICH'S first IVF clinic is due to open in the coming weeks, bringing with it pioneering new embryo selection technology.

Queensland Fertility Group (QFG) clinical director Dr John Esler, who has been based in Toowoomba for 16 years, said his group was finishing the final preparations for the clinic at the Ipswich Day Hospital in Churchill Street.

It will be the first time prospective IVF couples can undergo egg collection in Ipswich, with couples currently having to travel to Toowoomba or Brisbane for the treatment.

Dr Esler said the clinic would open with the QFG's new metabolomics embryo selection treatment, which allows specialists to identify the best embryos to transfer.

"The first consulting session in the new clinic should be held in a week or two weeks time, with egg collection starting soon after that," Dr Esler said.

"We're excited to finally have the clinic open, because it's been many months in the waiting go through government approvals. …
