Inspiring Entrepreneurs

Article excerpt

AS more and more people are making the leap of faith to start their own businesses, exploit opportunities and turn their vision into reality, it's good to know that the region has one of the best support networks in the UK in the Entrepreneurs' Forum.

The Entrepreneurs' Forum is made up of entrepreneurs who are passionate about what they do and who have experienced the ups and downs of business life. They are willing to share this experience for the benefit of others.

It provides unique access to a wealth of collective experience, creating real value for your business through a variety of mentoring and instruction from the practitioner's perspective. This is brought to life through an events programme which creates networking opportunities and a range of educational and business tools.

The aim is simple - to help and inspire entrepreneurs in the North East to grow the most successful business possible.

The focal point of the Forum's events programme is the annual conference, now in its seventh year, and arguably the region's premier business event welcoming some of the UK's leading entrepreneurs to the North East to share their wisdom and experience.

This year's conference sees the return of Lord Kirkham who will share the story of his rollercoaster four decades at the helm of DFS.

Adopted by a mining family as a baby, he left school at 16 with no qualifications and started DFS with just pounds 100 in a disused billiard hall.

Today, the business operates dozens of stores across the country and is one of the best-known names in furniture across the UK.

Forum chief executive Carole Beverley said: "We are thrilled to announce Lord Kirkham as one of our guest speakers for our seventh conference and are certain that his experience and expertise will be an inspiration to our delegates.

"It is five years since he gave his last keynote speech to North East entrepreneurs and many members still talk about the outstanding presentation he gave then.

"We can't wait to hear the next chapter in his story, delivered in Lord Kirkham's usual Yorkshire tell-it-like-it-is style."

An exciting addition to the Forum's programme this year sees the return of Sir Clive Woodward who returns to the region for the first time in six years since he spoke at the Forum's inaugural conference. …
